Day trip to Whitby with a bonus stop to Robin Hood’s Bay
Whitby is such a lovely coastal town around an hours drive from York. It has plenty of pubs, cafes, shops and fish & chips of course! Robin Hood’s Bay is also a picturesque spot and is just a short drive away. Definitely worth a visit if you have the time.

The route
The stops
The Moon & Sixpence
The cafe is at a great spot right on the waterfront. The food and drinks are really nice but got to admit the food was a bit slow. Hopefully this was just a one off!

A view of Whitby from the whale bones
DirectionsThe whale bones are an iconic landmark in Whitby and are definitely worth the walk up. Especially on a day like today when it is so windy!

Visit some independent shops
DirectionsSkinner Street is full of small independent shops, cafe and bars. Make sure you have a wonder down and stop in a few that take your fancy.
Old little streets
DirectionsHead over the bridge across town and have a look around Sandgate and Church Street. If you like craft beer there are a few stops that will catch your eye.

Make sure you count every 199 steps on the way up to the Abbey - you will have earned the next stop!

The Taproom Whitby
This place has a great outdoor area that looks into the Abbey. It brews it own collection of beers that are really good (and not as overpriced like some of these kind of places are). Make sure you have a read of the comments on the tables!

Magpie Café
The Magpie is the most well known fish and chip spot in Whitby. We decided to get a take out to share. It was great!

If you have some time, Robin Hood’s Bay is just a 15 minute drive down the road (or walk over if you have the time). It is only a small place but it is a really picturesque place to walk about.

Fish Box
You can’t go to the coast and not have an ice cream!
